Unity, not ethnic division, for our success.

The problem of marginalization of many sub-groups in Nepal is well recognized and many solutions are suggested. Some even suggested the ethnic division of Nepal. However, it does not address the real issues, rather fossilize the problem and creates more. So far we are Nepali brothers and sisters. The ethnic division will make us Bahuns, Madheshis, Gurungs, Newars, Limbus etc., except Nepali. Our needs are protecting minority’s culture\language and inclusiveness in education\economy\politics. The solutions are recognizing overlapping multi-cultural and multi-lingual zones, and targeted application of education, economic opportunities and political inclusion to the most underprivileged sub-groups. The added political tools like ‘decentralization’ and ‘affirmative action’ are useful and important. In general, the strategy must be ‘unity’, not ‘division’, for success of all.

Indian Shag: a new bird record for Nepal

Ornithologists confirm yet another new species of bird for Nepal. Indian Shag is the name of the new bird that has been reported from Koshi Tappu by ornithologists Suchit Basnet and Badri Chaudhary. It is known as Phalacrocorax fuscicollis to the scientific world. The bird was first sighted on 19 March 2009 by Mr Basnet and Mr Chaudhary and subsequently photographed on 26 March 2009 in the same area by a visiting birder Hannah Philips. The bird was located along one of the main channels of Koshi River. Mr Suchit Basnet, who is also the Chair of Nepal Rare Birds Committee shares that 'With the finding of Indian Shag in Nepal, the current bird total for Nepal stands as 865 species.'

than 1 kg meat a day.

The lion thought its prayers were answered when one US Zoo Manager visited
the zoo and requested the zoo management to shift the lion to the US Zoo.

Gas dealers to halt LPG sales from Thursday

Gas dealers warned on Wednesday to completely stop the sales of LP gas from tomorrow saying that the import could not meet the demands.

The Association of LP Gas Industry and Gas Sellers' Federation, organising a press conference in the capital today, expressed concern over the "irresponsibility" on the part of Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) and the Ministry of Supplies in gas import.

Federation president Gyaneshwor Aryal said the NOC failed to import and ensure proper management of gas as per the demand. The NOC and the ministry should immediately ease the gas crisis, he said.

Bhutanese in Sydney show their strength on indoor soccer

September 2008, came as a great beacon light of hope to the thousands of Bhutanese youths who had lit the flame of gender discrimination, deprived from the justice and right they deserved. The day when some of our feet landed on the Australian soil, hopes had finally opened to live a better and a healthier life. They had a dream, a dream to step up with a plea that shall always march ahead and do something progressive in life.
